What Is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that can involve widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, increased sensitivity and difficulty with concentration. Symptoms vary considerably and often fluctuate. Diagnosis and overall management should remain with the patient’s GP or specialist team.
For some people, gentle hands-on care and appropriately paced movement advice may help with associated muscular tension, stiffness or reduced confidence in activity. Any approach should be individual, collaborative and sensitive to symptom flares. Treatment is not presented as a cure for fibromyalgia and should complement, rather than replace, medical care and evidence-based advice on activity, sleep and symptom management.
At the first appointment we will discuss the diagnosis, current medical care, medications, activity tolerance and goals. If treatment is appropriate, techniques are adapted to comfort and reviewed according to response. We will not encourage patients to push through significant symptom exacerbation.
