What Is Pregnancy Osteopathy?
Pregnancy and the postnatal period bring significant physical changes. As the body adapts, some women experience back, pelvic, hip, rib, neck or shoulder discomfort, as well as muscular tension associated with changing posture, sleep, feeding and caring for a baby.
Our osteopaths use gentle techniques selected for the stage of pregnancy and the individual’s comfort. An appointment includes a full history and assessment, an explanation of the findings and, where appropriate, hands-on treatment together with advice on movement, posture and manageable exercises.
Osteopathy during pregnancy is intended to support musculoskeletal comfort and mobility; it does not replace antenatal or medical care. We will take account of any pregnancy-related conditions and liaise with, or refer to, your midwife, GP or another healthcare professional when needed. Postnatal appointments can also address the physical demands of recovery, feeding, lifting and carrying.
